Winston Family 2.1: Epilogue of Chapter 2

Mushi watched the bundle of snot from afar. How could they replace him with something that can’t even groom himself?!

It wasn’t fair! Mushi had been the sole provider of the family since they moved, and now “Grandma” Mimi sent this little worm a doll and nothing for poor Mushi.
“I’m not going to let this little monster take away my family,” Mushi huffed. “I’m still the cutest!”

Mushi walked out and saw that Roberto was back at writing again. The poor man was never going to stop until he had his bookstore!

Mushi rubbed up against Roberto’s leg and purred.
“Not now, Mushi!” He grunted and went back to writing.
Mushi lowered his ears and walked off.  Maybe Aurora would play with him. He was the one that gave her that mouse the other day and she did scream in joy when she saw it. He was a little hurt when she threw it out the window though. How inconsiderate!

Mushi meowed at Aurora and placed his paws on her leg.
“No, Mushi!” She swatted him down.
Why was it that no one wanted to play with him? He was the cutest! He was the fluffiest! His eyes narrowed. It was due to that baby, wasn’t it?! That was why they didn’t want his attention. All they cared about was the baby’s needs. Was it true? Did Brady replace Mushi?

“Hey, fluffball!” Mushi cringed. He knew that voice.
He turned around and saw the raccoon with a huge smirk on his face.

“Didn’t I tell you to get lost?!”
The  raccoon walked over to him. “You better be nice to me. You’re going to need a friend for when you get tossed on the streets.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Now that your owners have a baby, they don’t need you. You’re washed up! You’re old news! You think that extra layer of blubber is going to keep you in this family?”
Mushi lowered his ears back. “What do you know about families?!”
The raccoon laughed. “You may be the only family here, but there are other worlds. I’ve seen cats like you get tossed out  all the time. That hunting skill will only take you so far before you keel over.”
Mushi arched his back. “Get out of here!”
“Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!” The raccoon trotted off.

Mushi remained in a horrible mood for the next several days. It was Brady’s birthday and Aurora and Robert stopped everything to have the stupid baby as the center of attention. Mushi looked up and saw a deer. He was still miffed at the raccoon and decided to take it out on the deer.

“Get out of here!” Mushi hissed.
The deer looked down and nuzzled Mushi, causing him to topple over. The deer raced off before Mushi could get back up.
“You better run!” Mushi called out, licking the dirt off his fur.

Mushi walked inside and saw that Brady was now a toddler. He was already attached to his doll that grandma Mimi gave him. Apparently, the doll was named Sammy.

Mushi walked over to Brady, already in a defensive position.
“Lets get this straight. I’m the cute one. You’re below me,” Mushi said.
Brady giggled and petted Mushi. “Kitty!”

Maybe you’re not such a bad guy after all, Mushi thought to himself. Maybe we can make this work.
